Best home exercise equipment for beginners
My recommendation for the best home exercise equipment for beginners is surprisingly cheap, can be stored in your knickers draw and can tone every muscle in your body! Actually, you don’t have to be a beginner. I have been a life long exerciser and a fitness trainer for over 30 years and it’s the only bit of exercise equipment I use now. Oh, and a good pair of trainers. More on that at the end.
Why are you looking for the best home exercise equipment?
This blog post is written in 2020, in the middle of a pandemic, which has forced us to rethink most things in life. As a result, home exercise is fast becoming the new normal. The trouble is, we still think in the old way.
Many are trying to replicate the gym environment inside their bubble by buying or renting treadmills, exercise bikes, rowers and weights. Great if you are motivated to do it and have plenty of money. Others are joining online classes, plenty of those have popped up this year but again, they are the same things but with Zoom.
Some folks would come out in spots at the thought of joining a class or gym, so head down the home exercise route straight away. Time to change that and your mindset around exercise. So what is my recommendation?

The good old resistance band. It’s cheap, it’s effective, it’s portable, it’s versatile and it works! They are widely available in many shops as well as online.
The exercise equipment industry has unfortunately got its hands on the growing popularity of workout bands. There are now many different types on the market these days which has made the choice of the band a little confusing, especially if you are a beginner to exercise.

Just keep it simple
I would suggest getting the plain and simple strip of a band like in the illustration. No need for loops, handles, tubes or the like. You are buying the best exercise equipment for beginners, so it needs to be simple to use, have effective results, be inexpensive and practicable for the house. Who wants an indoor bike stuck in their bedroom anyway?
Not only that, the simple stretchy exercise band is not just the best home exercise equipment you can buy, but the best outdoor workout solution too because whatever you can do with it in the home, you can do with it in the park or when you are out for a walk. Just wrap it around your wrist or pop it in your pocket and away you go. This is where the good pair of trainers comes in by the way 🙂
Imagine doing the few examples I shared in the video when you are out for a jog or walk. Get your heart rate up and a little out of breath then simply stop along the way to fit in a quick resistance band session. Do this a couple of times and voila!
As a beginner, think simple and do it well and consistently.
